For the younger badminton enthusiasts, who may not remember Tony, Tony played in the old Birkenhead League. He played for Cheshire and he also won numerous international titles from the mid-1950s through the late 1960s and, between 1956 and 1968, shared four mixed doubles titles with three different partners at our very own All England Championships. He also played in seven successive English Thomas Cup teams between 1951 and 1970. Tony was awarded an MBE for services to badminton.
Tony’s grandson is professional golfer Mathew Jordan who was presented with the Wirral Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2023. We pass on our condolences to Tony’s family and friends at this sad time.
